Cin Cin in Friday Harbor, San Juan Islands, WA

Local Feature!
Earlier this month my husband and I took a trip to the beautiful San Juan Islands to celebrate our anniversary. We hope to move here someday, and thank goodness there’s a fantastic chocolate place in Friday Harbor! So today I want to tell you about Friday Harbor Chocolates (rebranded as Cin-Cin, as they expanded the store to offer wine and gifts in addition to chocolates, but still run by the same adorable couple, Roberto & Kathryn).
.
There are so many creative and interesting flavors and the chocolates are beautiful molded with bright pleasing colors and a good shiny finish. I would love for the centers to be a bit softer, but they’re still very good as is.
.
– Passion Fruit: in white chocolate, pf taste is recognizable and tart, not muted, not aggressive.
– Cardamom: in white chocolate, cardamom is fragrant, shows up quickly, not astringent.
– Chai: in dark chocolate, is complex (not cinnamon heavy like many chais) and well balanced.
– Orange: in dark chocolate, almost certainly tastes like it’s made with orange liqueur (though that’s not how it’s described by the maker). Strong, and the ganache is soft.
– Huckleberry: in dark chocolate though they really pack in the flavor as the ganache is very dark purple! Tart fruit flavor is perfectly balanced with the dark chocolate.
– Honey saffron: in dark chocolate, ganache is creamier and almost gooey from the honey. Saffron teasingly comes in and out, I would love to have it front and center.
– Rosemary caramel: luscious caramel that holds its shape and carries a substantial and authentic rosemary flavor- it invokes memories of chopping the fresh herb.
– Lavender-Honey: this ganache was too firm for me. The honey and lavender are equally balanced, but it ends up being too sweet for me. Perhaps the honey imparts too much sweetness. Or, perhaps the lavender could be dialed up just a bit for its pineiness.
– Bergamot-Ginger: DIVINE. This two-toned layered ganache appears to be both milk and dark. The fragrant citrus is apparent before you bite in. The blend of citrus and ginger is a perfect balanced symphony, and I even taste a hint of salt that keeps my mouth watering and on the edge of its seat…
