Local Feature! with small (new) Bay Area maker Choco Del Mar

@chocodelmar

Chocolate maker Kumar Agarwal started Choco Del Mar last May in Watsonville CA, closer to the coast, and recently relocated slightly inland to Los Altos. He learned some chops in a @dandelionchocolate class and moved fully into chocolate after looming layoffs at his day job.

Choco Del Mar features stories of their cute otter mascot, Cleo. Also heavily featured are beans from Andean regions and interesting inclusions. A recent summer series includes bars with cactus, crunchy corn and ghee (clarified butter). They also recently won an ICA award (Silver 2024) for their 70% Costa Esmeraldas bar.

For now they’re just at local Bay Area Farmer’s Markets (Palo Alto Saturday AM and San Carlos Sunday AM) but you’ll able to catch them at the @nwchocolate Festival this fall!

I’ll be reviewing some bars next post but I gotta say I LOVE their crunchy Andean corn bar! 😍 🌽
