65% Dark Chocolate with Pitanga fruit by @casa_lasevicius
Casa Lasevicius has many bars with various inclusions native to Brazil. I was tempted by the Cupuacu as I’m a huge fan of that fruit, but this time I branched out and tried one that I’ve never had before!
Pitanga fruit bears an incredible resemblance to a favorite Autumn produce icon… google it! 😉
They’re also known as Suriname or Cayenne cherries. They tend to be tart and can have strong citrusy flavors, and some describe them as having floral notes, tannins, or hints of mangoes.
You can see a thin filling of the fruit layered in the middle of the chocolate. The chocolate is soft in texture and VERY earthy, with notes of spices. This contrasts so beautifully with the tartness of the fruit. It’s hard to describe the flavor of the fruit as anything other than tart without tasting it by itself. It’s a great combination! The chocolate is from the Bahia state of Brazil and is said to be acquired directly from farmers.
