Portland Jamaica 71% dark by @oneonecacao
I was on the lookout for some smokey chocolate at the last @nwchocolate festival and this well-balanced bar from Jamaican maker One One fit the bill perfectly! The beans come from the Portland area in the Blue Mountains in the Eastern part of Jamaica.
Also, chocolatier Nick was so patient and helpful during my lengthy process of tasting & deciding! My brain always slows down at the end of the day at Chocolate festivals.
The nose is earthy & pleasant;
Teensy bit dry in the mouth at first but it begins to mellow and develop quickly, with hints of tart fruit and an alluring creamy smokiness. I can taste the land- earthy, woody, smokey, but also sweetened with berries. The finish is earthy and almost savory in a gentle way, but without any bitterness. An incredibly satisfying dark chocolate!
I’m sad One One won’t be there again for this fall’s upcoming NW Chocolate Festival. Maybe next year? 🙏
