The Xocolate Bar on Solano Ave. in Oakland

I took my mom on a little chocolate adventure for her birthday and we visited some shops we’d never been to before. There’s a surprising overall lack of chocolate shops on the Bay Area peninsula but Berkeley & Oakland seem to make up for that!
I really enjoyed visiting @xocolatebar at their original Solano Ave. location where they’ve been for 17 years! The shop is tiny but cozy and very cheerful. They have another, larger location in Rockridge, but here behind the tiny shop space is where they make their confections! They have beautiful sets of molded truffles with creative flavor inclusions, and also carry candies/bonbons from other makers such as Venchi (not a fan myself but they make a colorful pick-mix for gifts).

They use @tchochocolate for their in-house chocolate creations including bars, confections and drinking chocolate. I was also tickled to see a section for craft chocolate bars! They’re conveniently arranged by percentage, and they highlight origin-to-bar makers like @bonfiction . I wanted to try all the bars! I limited myself to one Marana bar for the time being- stay tuned for that review!

I had a lovely chat with the owner Malena- the overall visit was a delight! I will for sure be back to stock up on those craft chocolate bars.
