These @utopick_chocolates bars from @delaurentifoodandwine looked too good to pass up! My husband, who is generally not super enthusiastic about dark chocolate, requested we try the 70% Sierra Nevada bar. While I was immediately sold by the sound of Saffron (Azafrán) in dark milk chocolate! These bars did not disappoint!

70% Sierra Nevada
Tasting notes on the package are announced as “cereals (malt), cooked blueberries, wild strawberry and blackberry”. The malt comes through at the beginning and rides through the entire taste. The berries are subtle and pleasant. Not tart, like red fruits in say, Madagascar or India. This bar is decidedly un-acidic. It makes for a really smooth, pleasant dark chocolate that is great for “people who don’t like dark chocolate” 😆

56% Milk with Saffron
The saffron is at just the right level: strong enough to be noticed as soon as the chocolate melts on your tongue. Not overbearing, but hints of it linger in the finish. The mildness of the milk chocolate is just sweet enough to set the perfect stage for the saffron. I keep wanting just ‘one more piece’!
