Wild Criollo by Chocolate Naive & Caputo’s

The new Wild Criollo special release bar, a collaboration between @caputosmarket , @bfreebz and @chocolatenaive

Nose is an incredibly lovely richness of creamy cocoa and caramel. Very soft snap.
Taste is so incredibly CREAMY AND MILKY! My tongue absolutely believes this is a milk chocolate, even though it’s 70% dark with no dairy added. Hints of nuttiness/creamy sunflower seeds.

This is bar is special for several reasons:

  • Made with 100% genetically pure criollo cacao, an ancient variety once thought to be extinct, and prized for its fine flavor.
  • These Criollo trees were found growing wild in a nature preserve in Belize called BFREE, which then nurtured & cultivated them.
  • These beans were donated to make the bars (beans are not for sale), and 100% of the proceeds go back to support BFREE’s mission to preserve biodiversity and culture in Belize.
  • The chocolate is manufactured by the genius Naive Chocolate in Lithuania, creator of many other well-executed nano-lot chocolate bars.
  • The beans are exceptionally creamy and mild, with an unusually high fat content (58%) and lighter color. This leads to the finished chocolate looking and tasting like milk chocolate, even though it is 70% dark and contains no dairy.

This bar sells for $65 each, which is a lot but 100% of that goes back to BFREE to support their conservation efforts. This bar is one-of-a-kind, and I believe its flavor value and social/cultural value are worth the cost!
